Abstract

|
This paper describes the relationship between psychiatry and Christianity from a historical perspective. The main topics of each Age are as follows£º 1) the Ancient Ages£ºDreams in the Old Testament, the King Saul Story in 1 Samuel, faith healing of Jesus and the Apostles in the New Testament, mystic experiences of Jesus and the Apostles, the Confession of St. Augustine etc. 2) the Middle Ages£ºthe increase of the power of Christianity, the decline of Greek scientific mind, the domination of demonology, witch hunting and The Witches¡¯ Hammer, mass psychoses etc. 3) the Modern Ages£ºthe influence of Renaissance, De Praestigiis Daemonum of Johann Weyer, the revival of scientific mind of mental disorders, the establishment of psychiatry as a branch of medicine, the development of dynamic psychiatry, concepts of Christianity of Freud, Jung, Adler, the separation of psychiatry and Christianity, the indifference and hostility of psychiatry to Christianity etc. Finally, the movement of reconciliation and collaboration of psychiatry and Christianity during the past decade was introduced.
